On the sled: 30–40 min
Breivikeidet lies outside Tromsø, 50 minutes to an hour away by bus, and it is the camp the booking pages name for Destination Tromsø's half-day self-drive tours. Compared with Camp Tamok, the same operator's inland valley, the bus ride is a good half hour shorter each way, and the whole trip fits into a morning or an afternoon. The tours here share one format: you drive your own team, two people per sled, and swap halfway. They differ in what you eat and how long the ride lasts.
Every option side by side, with the same facts for each. Open a card for the full tour details.
Up to about 30 minutes on the sled in two runs with a driver swap, then a full hot meal at the camp. From age 4.
If you want to drive a dog team yourself but the price tags of the bigger tours give you pause, this is the tour to look at first: the same self-drive format (two people per sled, swapping driver between legs) at the lowest price point in our comparison, run by Destination Tromsø from a base at Breivikeidet outside Tromsø. A full meal is included.
The rating tells you the saving does not come out of the experience: it sits among the best-rated self-drive tours in this comparison.

30 to 40 minutes on a 3 to 4 km trail according to the listing, hot drinks and a snack, winter clothing included. From age 4.
A second way to the Breivikeidet camp, about an hour by bus from Tromsø. You get a short introduction, then drive your own team in pairs on a 3 to 4 km trail and swap places halfway. The listing puts the ride at 30 to 40 minutes, depending on weather and snow, and stops for photos along the way.
Back at the camp there are hot drinks and a traditional Norwegian snack. The day is short and suits a morning or an afternoon, and children from age 4 can come along.

The ride is split into two runs of 10 to 15 minutes with a driver swap in between, so the sled time adds up to about 30 minutes at most. Back at the camp a full hot meal is included, and the trip lasts about 4.5 hours. Pick it if a proper meal after the cold matters more to you than a few extra minutes on the trail.
The tour with transfer gives the ride a little more room. Its listing puts it at 30 to 40 minutes on a 3 to 4 km trail, depending on weather and snow, with a photo stop on the way and a change of places halfway. Instead of a meal there are hot drinks and a traditional Norwegian snack, and warm outdoor clothing, boots, gloves and mittens are part of the package. The bus leaves from the Destination Tromsø meeting point in the Prostneset terminal at the harbour and takes about an hour each way; the whole trip runs to around 4 hours 20 minutes.
On both tours the sled is shared. One person stands on the runners and drives, the other sits, and you change roles halfway, so your own time as driver is about half the ride. If you want a long ride without leaving the Tromsø area for a full day, the 70–80-minute self-drive of Arctic Adventure Tours is the one to look at.
Destination Tromsø also runs the tours at Camp Tamok, an inland valley 90 to 95 minutes from Tromsø by bus. Tamok is the snow-sure choice for November and April, and the place for the long advanced ride or the evening with a snowmobile, but each of those takes a full day or a long evening. Breivikeidet is the half-day option: a shorter bus ride, a shorter trip and a lower minimum age (4 here, 7 on the standard Tamok day). The transfer tour's listing says the ride depends on weather and snow, so if your dates fall in the shoulder weeks and snow certainty comes first, Tamok is the safer bet.
About 50 minutes to an hour by bus each way, depending on the tour. The whole trip takes around four and a half hours, so it fits into a morning or an afternoon. Camp Tamok, where the same operator runs its other tours, is 90 to 95 minutes away.
On the tour with a meal, up to about 30 minutes in two runs of 10 to 15 minutes. On the tour with transfer, the listing gives 30 to 40 minutes, depending on weather and snow. Two people share each sled and swap halfway, so your own time as driver is about half of that.
The tour with a meal includes a full hot meal at the camp. The tour with transfer includes hot drinks and a traditional Norwegian snack, but no full meal.
Both Breivikeidet tours accept children from age 4, one of the lowest age limits for a self-drive tour in our comparison. At Camp Tamok the standard day starts at 7, the advanced day and the evening tour at 16.
The booking pages name Destination Tromsø as the operator, the same company named for the Camp Tamok tours. Who owns or runs the camp itself is not stated.
